These guidelines are an effort to share the reflections of Holocaust educators with
many years experience in teaching this subject, and to promote approaches to
teaching the Holocaust that have proved effective in different national contexts.
They are the result of a positive and open exchange of views, of self-critical
reflection, and debate. Those of us involved in developing these guidelines feel that
we have gained from the opportunity to learn from each other and many of us are
